• Drake's basketball team
plays its second of five straight games in Des Moines with a
non-conference contest against IPFW [which used to be called Indiana-Purdue at Fort Wayne].
• Drake’s homestand got off to a slow start Wednesday with an 88-73 loss to mid-major power Saint Mary’s.
• Jeremy Jeffers led Drake in the loss with
16 points off the bench while Seth VanDeest added 15 points in 22
minutes on 6-of-9 shooting.
• IPFW, a member of the Summit League, is 5-5 this season after falling at Valparaiso, 63-52, Wednesday.
• The Mastodons are averaging 65.4 points per game while shooting 40.4 percent from the field.
• Frank Gaines leads the Mastodons with 19.2
points per game as the squad employs a small rotation with only 10
players seeing the court this season but all averaging more than 10
minutes per game.
• The Bulldogs feature an offense that has scored 77.3 points per game this season to rank in the top 40 nationally in scoring.
• Ben Simons leads Drake with 15.6 points
per game and has converted on 41.7 percent of his team-high 48
three-point attempts. The senior recently surpassed the 1,000-point mark
for his career and currently has 1,031 career points.
• As a team, the Bulldogs average 9.4
three-pointers per game, the ninth most in the nation and are converting
on 43.1 percent of its three-point attempts, the seventh highest rate
in the nation.
• In the loss to Saint Mary’s, the Bulldogs
were effective at getting to the free-throw line, attempting a
season-high 32 free throws. The team converted on 78.1 percent of its
attempts.

• Make Drake 4-4 on the season.
• Make the Bulldogs 2-1 at home this season and give the team a 1-0 lead to start the all-time series with IPFW.
