People at Wichita State think their university has outgrown the Missouri Valley Conference. Dennis Dodd of cbssports.com writes that John Bardo, Wichita State's president, has been exploring the possibility of his university leaving the Valley, adding football and joining the 12-member Mountain West Conference. Wichita State has been in the Valley since 1946, and has become a basketball powerhouse in the league since Gregg Marshall became its coach. Wichita State hasn't had a football program since 1986. I recall covering a Drake game there when both universities fielded scholarship football programs. My opinion is that it would be a huge blow to the Missouri Valley Conference if Wichita State left. I'm also not sure it would be a smart move for the Shockers to leave. I'm still not happy that Creighton left the Valley, and I'm not certain it will turn out to be a wise decision over the long haul.
