When I wrote about Significant Sunday earlier today, I had a pretty good idea there would something else of significance happening. I figured Northern Iowa would be punching a ticket to the NCAA basketball Big Dance. And punch their ticket the Panthers indeed did. With the score 54-54 in the final second of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament championship game against Evansville, UNI's Wes Washpun launched a long-range shot that bounced high off the back of the rim, then unbelievably fell through the rim, giving the Panthers a 56-54 victory. Coach Ben Jacobson's team had to roar back from a 17-point deficit to win. So now a team that owns victories over North Carolina, Iowa State and two over Wichita State will be in position to score an upset or two in The Dance. Go get 'em, Panthers.
