Sadness

As a lot of you know by now, I'm a huge fan of movies from the 1930s. There was no hotter box office star from that period than Shirley Temple, who began acting at the age of 3, and sang On the Good Ship
Lollipop in the 1934 movie Bright Eyes. Sadly, Shirley [whose married name was Shirley Temple Black] died overnight at the age of 85 in her California home. News accounts said she died  of natural causes, whatever that means. I guess I thought she'd live forever. Hollywood put Shirley in starring roles in more than 40 movies before she became a teenager, and she became the youngest actor to win an Academy Award at 6. I'd never seen the Bright Eyes film until it was shown recently on the Turner Classic Movies channel.  It was sensational and so was she. The good thing for all of us is that we'll always be able to remember Shirley through continued showings of her movies.
