Ron Maly says ut was a great, great job by Wichita State in the NCAA Regional title game at Los Angeles. The Shockers' 70-66 victory over Ohio State was not only good for coach Greg Marshall and his players, but also a tremendous accomplishment for the Missouri Valley Conference. Wichita State is the first Valley team since Indiana State [whose standout player was Larry Bird] in 1979 to reach the Fianl Four. I recall that Final Four at Salt Lake City very well. I covered it, when the Sycamores lost in the title game to Magic Johnson and Michigan State. By the way, I like it anytime Ohio State loses in anything. Now the Big Ten Conference, which was the best league in America, other than the NBA, during the regular season, faces the possibility of not having a team in the Final Four. Only Michigan can make that not happen. Oh, and another thing. Steve Alford is taking his act to UCLA. They deserve each other.
