Memo to baseball fans in Des Moines: Forget about watching Kris Bryant, who evidently is the Chicago Cubs' best prospect since Abner Doubleday invented the sport in a cow pasture in Cooperstown, N.Y., in games at Sec Taylor Stadium here. The Cubs ruined ticket sales for games played by the Triple-A team at the local ballyard. They called up Bryant for Friday's game against San Diego at Wrigley Field in Chicago. Bryant, a third baseman who is hitting .321 and has three home runs for the Des Moines team, will take the roster spot belonging to Mike Olt. Olt will go on the disabled list with a hairline fracture in his wrist. Let's hope Bryant is ready for the pitching he'll face in the bigs. If he isn't, a lot of people in the Chicago front office will be embarrassed. And Bryant won't be very happy either.
