• The Drake University men’s basketball team
returns to the road in Missouri Valley Conference play for a Tuesday
evening game at league co-leader Creighton.
• The Bulldogs are searching for their first
conference victory of the season after falling to Missouri State, 77-65,
Saturday to drop to 0-3 in the MVC and 6-8 overall.
• Creighton is 14-1 this season and 3-0 in league play. The Bluejays were ranked 16th in the
Associated Press top 25 last week. On Saturday, the Bluejays defeated
Indiana State in Omaha, 79-66.
• Tuesday’s game features two of the top
three-point shooting teams in the nation as Creighton ranks second
nationally at 43.7 percent from the arc while Drake is shooting 39.1
percent to rank 24th nationally.
• Drake has made 10 or more three-pointers in a game five times this season and twice in its last five games.
• Ben Simons leads Drake with 14.6 points per game and has scored in double figures in 13-of-14 games this season.
• Freshman Joey King was the squad’s top
scorer last week with 36 points in a pair of games including a
career-high 21 points in the loss to Missouri State.
• The Bulldogs’ rebounding has also seen an
upward trend with an average of 36 rebounds in MVC play, including a
season-high 46 at Bradley.
• Creighton’s offense is averaging a stout
79.5 points per game and has been held below 70 points just once this
season. Defensively, Bluejay opponents are scoring 62.4 points per game.
• Drake is averaging 73.1 points per game, but has been held to 61.7 points in its MVC games.
A victory would ...
• Make Drake 7-8 on the season and 1-3 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
• Make the Bulldogs 3-5 away from home this season.
• Be Drake’s first win at Creighton since Jan. 24, 2009.
• Make Drake 59-92 all-time against Creighton and 3-7 in the CenturyLink Center.
• Be the team’s third in its last six games.
• Make Mark Phelps 69-77 at Drake.
• Be the 1,156th in program history.
• Snap a three-game skid against Creighton.
A Loss would ...
• Drop Drake to 6-9 on the season and 0-4 in the MVC.
• Be Drake’s first 0-4 open to the MVC season since the 2009-10 season.
• Be Drake’s third road loss of the season.
• Be Creighton’s fourth straight win over the Bulldogs and increase its series lead to 93-58.
