Drake's Women Play At Southern Illinois

Drake Women’s Basketball Team Plays At Southern Illinois Saturday

The Drake women’s basketball team will try for its first Missouri Valley Conference victory when it plays at  Southern Illinois at 2:05 p.m. Saturday.

DRAKE
-Drake (5-7, 0-1 MVC) is looking for its first MVC win after falling at Evansville, 68-62, Thursday night in its conference opener.
-Against the Purple Aces, Kyndal Clark (Webb City, Mo.) scored a game-high 17 points and dished out a career-high six assists for the second-straight game while Morgan Reid (Kansas City, Mo.) notched her third double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
-Clark leads Drake with 14.1 points per game, which ranks eighth in the conference and Reid is the other Bulldog averaging in double figures as the forward scores 11.3 points per game while pulling down a team-leading 7.8 rebounds per game. Reid ranks sixth in the conference in rebounding average.
-Clark has scored in double figures in every game but one this season for the Bulldogs.
-Clark is one of just three MVC players (Jacqui Kalin, UNI; Anna Munn, Indiana State) that have scored 10+ in all but one game this season for their team.
-Drake has scored 60 or more points in seven straight games with a season-high 80 points in the win at Milwaukee.
-Drake is now 18-12 all-time in Missouri Valley Conference openers, and 10-11 in road openers and 1-2 in openers in Evansville.
-The Bulldogs opened their conference season on the road for the fifth-straight season. In addition, the Bulldogs have opened their MVC slate on the road in nine of the last 10 seasons. Drake hosted Missouri State Jan. 4, 2008 in its last Valley opener at home (W, 72-42).
-Drake just missed finishing with a .500 or better record in non-conference matchups this season. The Bulldogs had finished the previous six seasons at .500 or better. Drake went 4-5 out of conference during the 2005-06 season, but finished 13-5 in the MVC.
-Drake will return home to face the Indiana State Sycamores next Friday, Jan. 11 at 7:05 p.m.

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS
-SIU (3-9, 0-1 MVC) is also looking for its first MVC win after losing to Creighton, 81-60, Thursday night in Carbondale.
-Sophomore guard Cartaesha Macklin leads SIU with 14.3 points per game and four other Salukis average seven or more points per game: Rishonda Napier (10.5), Azia Washington (7.6), Dyanna Pierre (7.4) and Jameeka Bouie (7.4). Pierre pulls down a team-leading nine boards a game.
-Macklin averaged 16.5 points and 5.9 rebounds per game last season and was named the MVC Freshman of the Year.
-Washington is the reigning MVC Newcomer of the Week after the redshirt freshman notched a double-double with career-bests 17 points and 17 rebounds in a win over Chicago State.
-SIU is allowing a conference worst 75.2 points per game while Drake is averaging 64.9 points scored per game, which is fifth in the conference.
-The Salukis fell below .500 all-time in conference openers with its loss to Creighton Thursday night. The salukis are now 15-16 in conference openers since the 1983-84 season having dropped its valley opener the last three seasons.

DRAKE VS SIU
Drake is 49-25 all-time against Southern Illinois and has won eight of the last 10 games against the Salukis. The Bulldogs and the Salukis split in 2011-12 with each team winning on their home floor. The Salukis hold a slight advantage 18-17 in games played in Carbondale.
