A girl turns 18 just once.
Especially a granddaughter who gets prettier by the minute.
So this party-happy family celebrated the 18th birthday today of Megan Maly, the youngest of our six grandchildren.
Earlier in the week, we celebrated Megan's graduation from Valley High School.
We gave the attention Megan's 18th birthday deserved at a place called Smokey Row, a coffeehouse that just happens to also sell very good ice cream and sandwiches.
Ice cream of all types and names were the order of the day.
Megan had a monster cookie ice cream cone, I had a hot fudge malt [figure that one out], Maxine had a combined shaved almond ice cream and strawberry ice cream sundae and....well, you can see where this is going.
The important thing is that Megan is a very happy, very active 18-year-old young woman, and she is a cancer survivor,
She beat childhood leukemia.
Megan will be enrolling at Northern Iowa University in August.
We're all very proud of her.
