Drake Women Try To Hand ISU Its First Loss

The Drake women’s basketball team (1-3) will try to halt a two-game losing streak when it faces No. 24 Iowa State (4-0) Tuesday night at Hilton Coliseum in Ames. DRAKE
-The Bulldogs went 0-2 this past weekend at the Aggie Hotel Encanto Thanksgiving Classic at Las Cruces, N.M., losing to California Irvine, 69-64 and George Mason, 76-70.
-In both games the Bulldogs fell behind by double digits before charging back. Against George Mason they erased a 22-point deficit to hold a late lead, 68-67, with 1:39 left in the game.
-Junior forward Morgan Reid (Kansas City, Mo.) averaged 12 points and 10 rebounds per game in the tournament and senior forward Stephanie Running (Oak Creek, Wis.) averaged 13.5 points and nine rebounds per game.
-Junior college transfer Mary Pat Specht (Shawnee, Kan.) scored a career-high 15 points against UCI and for the tournament averaged 10 points per game.

IOWA STATE
The Cyclones traveled to the Bahamas this past weekend and won two games to capture the Junkanoo Jam title. ISU knocked off Illinois, 68-50 and Loyola Marymount, 55-33. The Cyclones are led in scoring by Hallie Christofferson at 14 points per game. Chelsea Poppens, a Big 12 preseason first-team selection,, is averaging 13 points and 9.7 rebounds, though she suffered a concussion in the first half of the Loyola Marymount game and missed the Illinois game. Her status is day-to-day.


DRAKE VS IOWA STATE
Tuesday night’s game will be the 52nd between the two schools, with Drake holding a 26-25 lead. The Bulldogs will try for just their second victory in the last nine seasons against the Cyclones. Drake last beat ISU, 78-75, on Nov. 22, 2009 at the Knapp Center. ISU won 71-64 at the Knapp Center in 2011.

KYNDALING PART TWO
Kyndal Clark (Webb City, Mo.), a member of the 2012 MVC All-Freshmen team, is averaging 17.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game through Drake’s first four games. She is second in the MVC in scoring and tied for 14th in assists.


DROPPING DIMES
Sophomore guard Alyssa Marschner (Plymouth, Minn.) has started all four games for the Bulldogs this season and averages 5.8 points per game. She played only 56 minutes all of last season, but this year is averaging 5.8 assists per game, which leads the conference and is 32nd in the nation. She is averaging 6.3 rebounds per game for 12th in the Valley.

DOUBLE DOUBLE
Reid has pulled down two double-doubles so far this young season. The junior forward is averaging 11.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. Her rebounding average leads the MVC and is 45th in the nation. Reid and Iowa State sophomore Brynn Williamson are cousins. Both are from Kansas City, Mo. with Williamson graduating from Staley High School and Reid from Kansas City North High School.


ON FIRE
Redshirt sophomore guard Carly Grenfell (York, Neb.) is averaging 10.5 points and 2.8 rebounds per game. The Nebraska native is shooting a blistering 58 percent from the field and 59 percent from behind the arc, which ranks second and first in the Valley, respectively. Her three-point percentage is tied for eighth best in the country.
