Sure, it was another awful winter day in Iowa. Cold, windy, snowy. A great day to be inside, and that's exactly where we were throughout the afternoon and night at Southeast Polk High School. Show choirs from 16 Iowa and Nebraska high schools were there to warm up standing-room-only crowds with singing and dancing in the auditorium at the Southeast Polk Rhythm & Music Showcase, 2014. Typical of the talented groups was the one from Waukee that is pictured. The grand champion was Millenium of Waukee, which featured singers who won the Best Vocals award. First runnersup were the Central Singers, Inc., from Davenport Central, who had the Best Choreography and Best Male Singer. Second runnerup was Choralation of Valley of West Des Moines, which was decorated with the Best Band and Best Female Vocalists [Abby Hudson and Jessica Martens] Awards. Express of Lincoln [Neb] East was the third runnerup, Spirit of Waukee and Blue Vibrations of Central Davenport were fourth runnersup. All in all, it was a wonderful show on the first day of March. Indeed, the music is still ringing in my ears, much louder and much more pleasant than the sound of snowblowers and shovels after yet another winter blast.
