Lolo Flopping Again, and I'm Blaming NBC-TV

By RON MALY

Well, things are back to normal.  Lolo Jones is flopping in the Olympics.  Again. This time it's in the Winter Games, way over there a bunch of time zones from here in Krasnaya Polyana, Russia.  The vastly over-hyped Jones, who shouldn't even be a member of the U.S.women's  bobsled team, is in 11th place at the halfway point. Jones, of course, was a hurdling failure in Beijing and London at past Summer Games.  The lady certainly knows how to lose.  Because she's got a Des Moines background, I'd prefer to not blame Jones for this latest no-show experience. So  I'll blame NBC-TV instead. The network insisted that Lolo be named to the team over a couple of other bobsledders [bobsled pushers, that is] who knew what they were doing.  Assuming Jones  doesn't make sort sort of miraculous  comeback in Krasnaya Polyana tomorrow, she better hope her friends at NBC haven't cut all ties with her. After all, Lolo is predicting she has a future in TV.  Maybe so. She is a bobsled pusher in Russia. Not much know-how involved with that job. Maybe she can be on the crew that applies makeup to Bob Costas' face in the future. If Costas is retained as an Olympics TV announcer, that is, after showing us those red eyes and the vodka drinking.
